The Curaçao Harbor Free Zone Distribution Center is a fully developed fenced-in business park covering an area of 57 acres (23 hectares) located near the Curaçao container terminal. Several supportive services are provided, such as, a Customs clearance office at the main gate, banking facilities and a 24-hour on-site security patrolling.

The Curaçao Harbor Free Zone Distribution Center is widely known as a trading distribution center in the over 30 million consumers of the Caribbean.

Presently there are more than 100 merchants active in this zone, occupying a total floor space of close to one million square feet (91,000 square meters). These enterprises include:

  • Trading companies that distribute products from Asia, the United States and Europe to the Caribbean and Latin America. White goods, garments, shoes, clothing, toys and cosmetics are some of the items most frequently sold through the zone;
  • Distribution companies offering services such as warehousing, distribution and invoicing to third parties.

Free Zone Requirements & Incentives
The free zones are regulated by the Curaçao free zone law, which law grants incentives under certain requirements. Following, an overview of the requirements and incentives applicable for having an operation in both, the Curaçao Airport Free Zone Merchandise Center and the Curaçao Harbor Free Zone Distribution Center:

Requirements

  • A minimum of 75% of the annual turnover must be obtained from export. Sales to the local market are allowed up to a maximum of 25% of the total sales turnover. On these sales normal import duties and profit tax rates are applicable;   
  • A minimum of one job created per 1800 square feet (170 square meters) of space occupied;
  • Submit an application form (contact Curinde);
  • Establishment of a limited liability company under local law, dedicated exclusively to the free zone business;
  • Local business/director's license;
  • Local work/residence permit;
  • For a long lease land contract, a feasibility study is required.

Incentives

  • 0% import duties;
  • 2% profit tax on export profits;
  • No land and property taxes;
  • Exemption of turnover tax.
